As a car owner and driver, you know the importance of visibility for driving safely. In truth, visibility really matters which means you’ll need to change your light bulbs and windshield wiper blades regularly to ensure your visibility is not compromised and your vehicle can be clearly seen by other drivers. It’s often easy to see when your windshield wipers need changing, but headlights, taillights, and signal lights are a bit more challenging.

The Lights

Your lights play an important role in keeping you safe, but it can be hard to know when your lights need cleaning, or your bulbs need changing. Plus, the lifespan of your lights varies based on manufacturer and quality. Because your lighting system provides signals and alerts to other drivers, as well as giving you’re the nighttime visibility you need, in order to ensure you can see and be seen, check your headlights, tail lights, and signal lights at every oil change. If your lights are dimming, blinking, or not functioning, they should be replaced. In addition, you keep your lights clean, removing dirt and debris to keep them shining bright. You’ll also want to ensure your lights are aimed properly, so as not to reduce your visibility or “blind” other drivers.

The Windshield Wiper Blades

A number of factors affect the life of your windshield wipers. Extreme weather conditions, like excessive summer heat and winter weather conditions, can mean a more frequent need to change your windshield wiper blades and stay safe. Your windshield wiper blades are vital to your safety, especially in inclement weather conditions like summer’s often sudden downpours and thunderstorms. In most cases, changing your wiper blades every six months is recommended, but it is always best to consider your driving conditions, which may mean more frequent replacement. If you live in a harsh climate, hot and sunny or cold and icy, you’ll find you need to replace your wiper blades more often than those who live in milder climates. First and foremost, if your windshield wiper blades are leaving patches, streaks, or are only cleaning one side of your windshield, they have deteriorated and need changing.

Visibility Matters – Changing Lights and Wipers

When it comes time to replace the wiper blades, clean your lights, or change your bulbs, there are lots of options. If you’re handy, you can likely do the job yourself, but if you don’t have the time or know-how, an easier fix is scheduling a service appointment at your trusted Subaru dealer to get the job done quickly and effectively for you.
